Apple Inc. Unveils Fifth Generation iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display

Apple CEO Tim Cook Launching Apple iPad Air & iPad Mini with Retina Display

Ahead of a competitive holiday shopping season, Apple Inc. on Tuesday(Oct 22, 213) launched a much thinner iPad Air tablet which is 20% thinner than it's predecessor. The new iPad Air weighs just 1 pound or 453.59 gm i.e. 28% lighter than iPad 2. Price of Apple's iPad Air starts from $499 with WiFi and 16 GB storage capacity whereas the WiFi + Cellular price starts from $629 for the same storage capacity.

In a launch event at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, Apple CEO Tim Cook and colleagues also revealed the new iPad Mini with retina display. The new iPad Mini (Retina Display) has almost the same specifications as that of earlier iPad Mini except the introduction of Retina Display and the new A7 chip with 64-bit architecture and M7 motion coprocessor. There is a $100 increase in both WiFi + Cellular and WiFi models for the new iPad Mini to that of old. The new iPad Mini is now priced at $399 for WiFi and $529 for WiFi + Cellular cellular models having 16GB storage capacity.

During the launch of new iPad models, Apple Inc. also announced that they are going to offer Mac OSX software completely free to those who bought an Apple computer starting from 2007. Apple is also offering their productivity suite iWork for free to those who is buying a new Apple Mac. iWork is similar to the Microsoft's Office suite. The following change in stance of giving free OS and other softwares like iMovie, Garageband and iWork is a remarkable step by Apple Inc., as its rival company Google is already offering free Chrome OS
